Kansas City Lesbian Gay and Allied Lawyers ("KC LEGAL") is committed to protecting the privacy of its members. KC LEGAL recognizes the interest of its members in the confidentiality of their personal information. KC LEGAL only maintains personal information that is relevant to KC LEGAL's mission and seeks to maintain accurate, complete, and timely information.

The security of personal information is important to KC LEGAL. KC LEGAL maintains all personal data with reasonable technical, administrative, and physical safeguards to protect against loss, unauthorized access, destruction, misuse, modification, and improper disclosure. No computer system or information can ever be fully protected against every possible hazard. KC LEGAL provides reasonable security controls to protect personal information against foreseeable hazards.

KC LEGAL maintains member databases that contain mailing, billing, and member profile information. KC LEGAL also maintains databases of member and non-member registrations for KC LEGAL events and activities. The information in these databases is used by authorized KC LEGAL board members to mail announcements and communications related to KC LEGAL events and activities; respond to member inquiries; and help us improve services to our members. Member records are maintained as long as an individual is a KC LEGAL member and for a reasonable period (usually about five years) following a membership lapse. Purchases and credit card transactions are retained for as long as appropriate to meet contractual, tax, or auditing needs.

All personally identifiable information contained in KC LEGAL membership, purchase, and registration databases is treated as confidential unless expressly authorized by completing our On-Line Directory Form and will be used only for the purposes stated in this policy, except where required by law.

Just like any other record keeper, KC LEGAL may be required to disclose personal information in response to valid legal process. This includes a search warrant, subpoena, or court order. Disclosures may also be appropriate to protect KC LEGAL's legal rights or during emergencies if physical safety is believed to be at risk. These disclosures are possible although unlikely.

Personal data about KC LEGAL members may, from time to time, be collected or shared with outside contractors, auditors, consultants, and others working on behalf of KC LEGAL to assist in carrying out the mission of KC LEGAL. KC LEGAL informs those recipients about safeguarding personal information, and requires them to use it only for an authorized purpose consistent with this privacy policy, and to return it or destroy it upon completion of the activity.

KC LEGAL does not sell, rent, or exchange email addresses of its members. KC LEGAL uses email addresses to send the following types of information and requests:

Competing voluntary surveys seeking feedback consistent with its mission and for quality and service improvement purposes;
Supplying you with information, including KC LEGAL news, events, and services, ans well as similar information from like-minded organizations; and
Requesting voluntary time or monetary contributions to KC LEGAL.

KC LEGAL does not log the identity of visitors. However, we may keep access logs, for example containing a visitor's IP address and search queries. We may analyze log files periodically to help maintain and improve our Web site and enforce our online service polices. Cookies are only set when users visit restricted portions of our website. Raw log files are treated as confidential and retained for no longer than two years.

On some pages of our site we allow individuals to submit information for the purposes of joining KC LEGAL; renewing or updating their membership; donating money to KC LEGAL; ordering products and services; or registering for an event or activity. Information collected on these pages will be used according to KC LEGAL's pricacy policy.
